It’s a known fact that within the family, women are the primary caregivers. But what happens when the wife is stricken with a life-threatening, life-altering chronic illness and the husband must juggle caring for her with his other responsibilities – possibly raising their children, maintaining his duties at work, as well as maintaining the household and expenses?
Thankfully, there are supportive, selfless, faithful men who care – Real Men. Men who aim to use their own experiences to help other men cope, get the help they need, and have a positive impact on the family as a whole.
…a simple rule of thumb for behavior. Ask yourself what you would want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them. – Luke 6:31
This sacred writ is the founding principle of Real Men CARE, Inc. We don’t have to imagine ourselves in the shoes of a husband caring for a chronically ill wife and wonder what type of help he may need. We all are, or have been in his shoes and understand the feelings of depression, guilt, loneliness, and even helplessness. We know that he needs love, support, genuine concern, and kindness.
Real Men CARE (RMC) is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3), non-profit national organization dedicated to empowering male spousal caregivers to care for themselves and the women they love. Our programs improve and uplift the lives of the unrecognized and underserved members of the caregiver community. Although the funds raised have a significant impact and our programs benefit hundreds of local residents, Real Men CARE is striving to have a national reach and move the male caregiver community closer to receiving the recognition it deserves.
We are a compassionate brotherhood of men in the community who care. We believe that when you help a real man – a man who stands by his commitment to provide physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, and/or logistical support to his family “in sickness and in health” – you help a family grow stronger.
